tl;dr - futurebikechi.ronyislam.com
I do not include bike lanes in anything classified as “Low Stress”. Low Stress includes buffered bike lanes, protected bike lanes, and greenways.
2023 Cycling Strategy
Spring 2023 CDOT, under Commissioner Gia Biagi, released the Chicago Cycling Strategy. It’s got some good stuff in it and really reminds me of this idea for a Chicago Bike Grid.
A city-wide strategy with focus on local trips on low-stress routes…
As part of this the city released their plans for the next 150ish miles for the bike network and streets where they have analyzed feasibility of protected bike lanes. For the PBL feasibility analysis they classified streets as needing some redesign or significant redesign or marked for future analysis. None of these maps have street names on them or are interactive.
FOIA
In order to create an interactive map I FOIA’d CDOT for the map files they used to create their pretty document. Unfortunately I didn’t get the files for months and sued CDOT for failing to comply with FOIA laws. Soon after I got the files! And now you can interact with the existing, future, and potential bike network Chicago could have in store. futurebikechi.ronyislam.com
